The BIG Math Network Steering Committee is excited to announce the opening of self-nominations for new Steering Committee members. Committee members play a critical role in guiding the strategic direction and decision-making of the BIG Math Network. Serving as a committee member is a unique opportunity to contribute your expertise, leadership, and passion to our mission: promoting careers in Business, Industry, and Government (BIG) to students and departments in the mathematical and statistical sciences.

What does it involve?

As a member of the Steering Committee, you will:

• Participate in virtual meetings once a month, each lasting one hour.
• Help organize our Industry Connection Series panels by selecting themes, recruiting panelists, and moderating discussions.
• Engage with our community by seeking out contributors to write blog posts about their experiences related to BIG Math careers.
• Contribute ideas for new initiatives and resources to better support our target audience.

Nomination Details:

• Nomination Period: The nomination period opens now and will remain open until December 6th, 2025.
• Eligibility: To be eligible for self-nomination, individuals must be currently employed as a practitioner or faculty member in the mathematical or statistical sciences. We strongly encourage members from diverse backgrounds and with varied skills to consider self-nominating.
• Available Positions: We have 10 positions in total, with each member serving a three-year term: 5 practitioners and 5 faculty. This year, we are seeking 1 faculty member and 2 practitioners.
• How to Nominate: To nominate yourself, please complete the self-nomination form here before the nomination deadline, December 6th. If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out to a current Steering Committee member.
• Selection Process: After the nomination period closes, the current Steering Committee will review all submissions and reach out to the nominees if additional information is needed. On or before December 13th, the current Steering Committee will vote for the new members.
• Service Period: If selected, Steering Committee members serve from January 2025 until December 2027.
