BIG Math Network: Industry Connect Series: Biomathematics

The Industry Connection Series features interactive panels with
mathematical scientists working in industry. The goal is to connect
mathematical sciences students directly with industry members who can
answer student-generated questions. Students at all levels are welcome and encouraged to attend and ask questions.

The next event is Wednesday, November 20th, 2024, at 3:00 pm ET, focusing on connecting students to professionals working in biomathematics. Panelists will be Dr. Sonya Snedecor of OPEN Health and Dr. Joshua Campbell of Computational Biomedicine BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

Sonya J Snedecor has had a very non-traditional mathematical career. After obtaining a BA in Mathematics from Hampton University, she received her PhD in Biomathematics from UCLA. From there she moved even farther into the health sector, doing a postdoctoral fellowship in Pharmacoeconomics at the University of Florida before joining the consulting company, Pharmerit (now OPEN Health). For over 17 years, she worked with pharmaceutical manufacturers to demonstrate the value of their products to healthcare payers around the world. After leaving OPEN Health, Sonya started her own practice, Science Clarity, where she coaches scientists to attain greater influence and recognition through better communication of their research.

Joshua D. Campbell received his PhD in Bioinformatics from Boston University. He performed his postdoctoral research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT where he worked with The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) to identify novel mutational drivers of lung cancer. He is currently an associate professor in the Department of Medicine at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine where he is developing novel statistical methods and software packages for analysis of single cell and mutational signature data. His group is using these novel integrative approaches to uncover biological mechanisms that contribute to the development of precancerous lesions and to understand molecular differences between ancestries.
